The star has handed over the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound award winnings to the trust for venues, which works to preserve the United Kingdom's grassroots music venues.

He was presented with the cheque on October 16 as his latest record the album was declared the best record of the previous year.

He has decided to donate the funds to the MVT, in appreciation of the crucial part local spots had in his beginning days.

"I couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the shows I played around the area, and further afield, when I was beginning," remarked Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are struggling."

From early 2023 onward, over 150 of these spaces have shut down – roughly 16% of the total UK scene.

Recently, top acts like the band Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its initiatives to support the industry, by including a small levy to their ticket costs, which benefits independent venues.

Sam Fender also participated, generating over £100k on his recent tour to help numerous grassroots venues across Britain.

These funds helped venues that were confronting possible closure due to challenges caused by flooding, fires and family tragedies, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and sound issues.

Other venues were granted funding support in upgrading infrastructure and gear that directly benefitted performers and fans.

"The concept that money from shows in large arenas helps the local stages, where it all starts for artists like me, is just logical," the star has stated.

He is among several artists to contribute his honor funds to good deeds.

In the band received the award in the mid-90s for their release Different Class, lead singer Jarvis Cocker announced that the group would donate their winnings to the charity War Child.

That year, rapper and singer she divided her prize across several charities, like the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"Additionally, I donated a thousand pounds to the center, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was growing up and they required better apparatus," she explained to outlets.

In recent years, Ezra Collective contributed their funds to the local youth club that developed their act, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.

And 1994 winners M People contributed their prize to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was identified with the illness.

"Winning was sufficient," said singer Heather Small. "The cash was the cherry on top but we didn't require the extra, because we had the cake. So our winning touched the lives of others."

In the past week, the trust revealed it had saved several grassroots venues in that region, by transferring them to public stewardship.

One venue in Southampton and the second in Bristol were bought under the Own Our Venues program, which is funded by Arts Council England and supporters who acquire "shares" in the venues.
